What is a DPV?
A DPV is an underwater transportation system for recreational and technical divers.
What are the advantages of diving with a DPV?
A DPV allows you to cover more territory and see more underwater with increased comfort and maneuverability. Trying to swim three miles on a dive is not practical to the average diver. However, with a DPV you can cover this distance on a single dive. Because you use less energy, you probably use less breathing gas and thus extend your dive time.
Cave divers and wreck divers use DPVs to extend their penetration capabilities. With a DPV, a cave diver can push further into a cave passage and a wreck diver can penetrate deeper into a wreck.
How much to DPVs cost?
DPVs range in price from $1,000 to $6,000 depending on the type, size, and type of batteries you choose. Each DPV manufacturer typically offers different sizes and configurations of their DPVs, so finding one to suit your needs shouldn’t be difficult.
What powers a DPV?
DPVs are generally powered by batteries. Anywhere from two to four 12-volt rechargeable GelCell or NiMH batteries power the DPV’s engine. Batteries are wired in series or series parallel.
How do you charge a DPV’s battery pack?
The DPV manufacturer should provide a specific battery charging unit with the details about how to properly charge your DPV batteries. The charging unit plugs into any AC wall outlet and to the battery pack. Typically, charging units have displays or LEDs that indicate the progress of batteries being charged.
