DPV/Scooter Training

Diver propulsion vehicles (DPV) are underwater transportation systems for recreational and technical divers. There are two types of DPVs: ride on and ride behind. Ride on DPVs are equipped with an integral saddle that you physically sit on and ride. Ride behind DPVs are designed to tow you by the arms and a tow strap that is clipped to your BC or harness.
A number of training agencies offer DPV training. Some DPV training is incorporated in other certification courses, so it’s best to contact your instructor or training agency to determine exactly what they offer.
Training courses provide the basic knowledge, skills, and specialized techniques to safely and effectively operate a DPV. Strong emphasis is placed on awareness of the potential negative impact of DPVs to the reef, cave, and wreck environment. In addition, DPV training also focuses on gas management, emergency procedures, technique, buoyancy control, and proper ascents/descents using a DPV.
